Portrait of Grantley Martelly

About Grantley Martelly

Grantley Martelly, emigrated to the United States from Barbados to pursue his academic aspirations. He has earned a bachelor’s degree, two master’s degrees, and is currently engaged in writing his debut book.

A prostate cancer diagnosis changed his life. Physical challenges, including back issues, have presented additional obstacles. But rather than allowing those experiences to define what was possible, Grantley chose to ask a different question:

"What am I going to do with the rest of my life?”

That question has become the foundation of his work.

A prostate cancer survivor, patient advocate, patient researcher, and host of Real Health Black Men, Grantley speaks from the intersection of lived experience.

Grantley has learned that life rarely follows the plan we make for it.

Experience, health and wellness, research, and personal resilience.

He understands what it means to sit on the other side of the healthcare conversation—as the patient.

Through his work as a Patient Advisor with BACPAC (Black and African-Descent Collaborative for Prostate Cancer Action), Grantley also brings the patient's voice and perspective into prostate cancer research.

His message is simple but powerful:

What happens to us can become part of our story without becoming the definition of our life.
